When you put a hardwired door intercom and buzzer system on a home phone line, any brand, you get all the convenience of door-to-phone intercom but with one significant side effect: your phone line is now unusable for internet as your connection gets unbearably degraded.

If you have a single home phone line, then you must incur the cost of a second line or an additional service to avoid this problem. If your single home line is a DSL line, it is an absolute must to get a second line from the local phone company for telephone entry screening purposes. An addition which defeats the whole purpose of utilizing a DSL line:

one single home line for broadband internet and simultaneous voice calls. Alternative bypasses are all costly solutions in home improvement applications.

PhoneBell reconciles internet use of your home phone line with door-to-phone intercom convenience. It does so with no special wiring or accessories whatsoever. If your home line is an analog line, now enjoy the convenience of receiving phone calls while surfing the net. When the call waiting dialog box displays on your screen (shown below) as a result of an incoming phone call, then either hit the 'Answer' button to take the voice call or the 'Ignore' button to continue with internet browsing. Caller's name will also show up if you have caller ID service on the line.

If a door entry call by a guest occurs while you are surfing the net, the Controller will ring your Door Chime, and as many as 4 times. All of this you get with the Q-10d and the Q-10f Controllers.

If you have a DSL line instead, there is no special wiring or bypass to perform, no required splitters, so you don't need to be savvy and expert in telephony. Let the equipment intercept your line, your DSL carrier will still be available at every single one of your home phone jacks. Eventual door calls by arriving guest will ring your phones (and door chime) while you are surfing the net. Simplicity and convenience at their best! This is accomplished with the Q-10i controller.
