FAQ-4

When I hook up the tape recorder to these intercom systems, can I install the tape anywhere in my location?

No, the tape recorder has to be installed close enough to the Controller. The audio jack and the REMOTE jack of the appliance must be hooked to the dedicated jacks on the Unit. If you absolutely want to take advantage of the on-line activation capability of the Controller while installing the recorder at a distant location, we recommend you to use a conventional phone call recording adapter and a pair of low-cost X10 controls. You hook one up to the Controller and the other one to the adaptor. This way you can control the adapter (activation-deactivation), thus the recorder, from any phone.

If I have an ordinary radio cassette player, can I use the tape for recording and the radio as a source of hold music?

In ordinary radio cassette appliances, the radio and the tape recorder cannot be activated at the same time. A selection button forces you to select between the one or the other player. Therefore, if you need to operate both functions (call recording and music on hold) at the same time, you need two different appliances.

Can I still conference with another in-house user and an external subscriber when I install this product?

Yes, two or more in-house users can still be connected to an external caller as in a conference call with this intercom system. In fact, this telephone system allows you to generate conference calls in a seamless fashion. It will  allow you to put the external caller on-hold, and make a private consultation with your in-house peer, simply by hitting a button on your keypad. You both hit the hook switch to reconnect to the external subscriber when you are done consulting with each other.

Can I remain permanently away from the phone and still attend to my calls?

Yes, in Auto-Answer Mode (available in Q-16S-S and Q-16S-P) you don't need to touch the phone at all, neither to take the calls nor to terminate them. Automatic electronic pick-up and hang-up are guaranteed as long as you use a speakerphone. The better your speakerphone, the higher the quality of the communication.

How difficult is it to install the doorphone station to these telephone intercom systems?

A twisted pair wire is all you need to connect the doorphone station to the Controller. You may use the existing doorbell electrical wire if you wish. This will only be an advantage if you installed the Controller close enough to the in-house doorbell power circuit. If you plan to install the doorphone station, it is recommended to install the Controller so as to keep the connecting wire to that station to a minimum, or else permit a wiring path that makes the wiring as simple as possible to carry thru.

Can I answer the doorphone calls from any extension phone in my house?

The doorphone calls are indicated by  distinctive ring of the extension phones. You will know immediately that it's a guest's call from your door, and not a user intercom call. You can pick any extension to attend to the visitor. If you move to the backyard or even to the neighbor's with the handset or headset of your cordless phone, you will still receive the doorphone calls and attend to your visitors.
