In most cases, when you receive an external call on this telephone
system which requires transfer to a third party,
you will want to put the call on hold and consult with the third party before actually
transferring the call (screened transfer).
In some other instances, you do not wish to consult with the third party prior to transferring
the call (unscreened
transfer).
You would hope to be
able to transfer the call directly to the
desired person. Most people will incur the costs of a
second line to avoid the hassle of picking up other people's calls and yelling all over
the place to transfer them their
calls.
