Video
Baluns for Video Entry Systems
Twisted-pair
cables
(CAT5)
are
knowingly
intended
to
be
used
for
phone
wiring
and
wiring
for
computer
networking. However, on long wire runs,
you
may
use
a
twisted
pair
to
carry
a
composite
video
signal
with
the
help
of
a
special
accessory.
A
small
adaptor
called
video
balun
may
be
used
to
enable
a
telephone
twisted
pair
(CAT5)
to
carry
low-frequency
baseband
video
signals
from
a
camera
without
signal
degradation.
When
wiring
to
cover
runs
of
over
500
ft
or
so
between
the
outdoor
video
doorphone
piece
and
main
indoor
location,
cost
considerations
might
prompt
you
to
consider
this
alternative.
You
will
need
to
use
two
adaptors,
one
at
the
doorphone's
camera
and
another
at
the
receiver
(TV
set
or
modulator).
They
do
not
require
power
feed
from
the
power
line,
which
makes
them
readily
usable.
