Four-Wire
Video Intercom Systems
For
a
short
distance of about 150ft.
between
the
video doorphone and the indoor video receiver (TV set or modulator)
you may safely use CAT5 twisted-pair wire. Beyond that distance up
to about 800ft. use CAT5 with two mini video baluns if you want to
keep it simple.
Practically
no
signal
degradation.
You may always use RG6, RG56 or RG59
coax cabling for all distances, which is the standard cabling for
video transmission. Strongly recommended to use coax for distances
over 1000 ft.
Note that a second pair of wires is
needed to bring power to the camera. When running CAT5 cabling use a
second twisted pair within the cable for that purpose. When using coax
cabling you may either use coax (RG59U) that carries the extra 2 wires
within the cable or run a separate cable.
