Some people live with a
relative right next door. With both houses perhaps a couple of hundred feet
apart at most,
next-door relatives may wish to put in place a local intercom solution between the two homes.
That may be to keep an eye on the elderly parent who lives next door.
  
Most
people will prefer a hard-wired solution for this kind of application to ensure
reliability and security. They are
right. While some other people will be looking for inter-building intercom solutions
for business
purposes. They all wish to have a setup whereby they can grab the phone and call the other
house without going thru the public telephone network.
The Ultimatoll delivers the exact measure for inter-house
intercom (Off-Premise Extension or OPX). By
installing one Ultimatoll unit in any one of the two locations, you are ready for
inter-home intercom. You hook the unit to the second pair (black/yellow wires) of your
existent wiring in both homes. To do so, you install the Unit at the wiring home-run point
of one of the two homes (basement), you run a pair of wires from the other location to
that point, tie them up with the black/yellow wires of the main house, and attach them to the
extension port of the Unit. That's it! When you plug any phone in any one of the homes to
its regular phone jack thru one of our mini-couplers, this phone will be attached
to the intercom system.
At any location where you want to service both the intercom and your
regular phone line, you may attach two phone sets to the wall jack (use an ordinary T
adapter to do so) or a low-cost two-line phone. The two-line phones give you an efficient
and elegant solution, one line-button for your regular phone line, and the other for your
intercom. You have a maximum of 6 user IDs for users to identify and call one another
around the homes. To call another user, you punch [#] + [1 or 2 or 3...up to 6]. The call
addressee identifies the call by distinctive ring. Note that the users are not limited to
call other users in the other home, they can call other users in the same home! You don't
need to know where someone is in the other home or in your own home to call him or her.
Distinctive ring does the job for you.
2.- Inter-house
Monitoring
If you want voice page, use some speakerphones on the intercom. You
cannot use distinctive ring and voice page at the same time, however. The use of
speakerphones gives you the ability to monitor the other home from yours. Have the
speakerphone(s) of the location you wish to monitor activated. If you wish permanent
monitoring from your side, activate yours also. This is great to keep an eye on the other
relative's house, when they go on vacation for instance! You will hear the sounds from the
monitored location from your speakerphone at all times. Best monitoring results with
quality speakerphones.
Note that you can even attach one or two doorphones to the Intercom
unit to control entry access to your locations via intercom and door buzz. Distinctive
ring will let you know when the call is a door entry call or a regular intercom
call. Note that all intercom phones in both homes will ring on door entry calls from any
doorphone. However, this gives you the possibility to attend to the other relative's door
entry access when they are away from home.
It's up to you to make up the overall distribution of your intercom phones.
You probably will not need one at every single location in each home.
